Offering everything from impressive sports fields to picturesque playgrounds for toddlers and everything in between, you can have a blast in the great outdoors at New Tampa Community Park and Flatwoods Preserve.
New Tampa Parks
New Tampa Community Park is located on Commerce Park Blvd. adjacent to Freedom High School and Liberty Middle School. It features four softball fields, five soccer fields, a concession stand, and restrooms along with an extraordinary Recreation Center that has a 12,500 square foot gymnastics area. There is also a large multi-purpose room, covered deck, Skate Park for skateboarders and inline skaters, and playground for children. Children’s dance and gymnastics classes are held at the New Tampa Community Park Rec Center throughout the year, and parents can reserve the area for their child’s birthday party.
If you’re a New Tampa resident with a passion for the outdoors, then Flatwoods Wilderness Park is a must-see. Fun for the whole family, the public access area of Flatwoods Wilderness Park includes roughly 16,000 acres! The Flatwoods section is best known for its 9-mile paved loop trail, perfect for bicycling, rollerblading, walking, and jogging. A 2-mile paved extension connects Bruce B. Downs Blvd. with the loop road. Flatwoods Park Trail is a paved 1-mile stretch between Morris Bridge Road and the loop road. Oh, and if hitting the “pavement” isn’t your thing, the area also features several miles of off-road dirt bicycle trails. Just remember that Florida state law requires helmets on cyclists under the age of sixteen.

Bird watchers have the ability to see some of the area’s beautiful birds in their natural surroundings, just one reason that the park provides a welcome serene getaway from the hustle and bustle of all things New Tampa, without going far from home.
That said, when you’re ready to take a break from it all and get physical in the beauty of nature, be sure to check out Flatwoods Wilderness Preserve. Don’t forget your camera!
