It all started in the mid 80s when land developers were looking for an area to start master planned residential communities with all local amenities and conveniences. Tampa Palms was the first community in the New Tampa area.
To stop all confusion, in our articles, New Tampa refers to areas from the intersection of Bruce B. Downs and Bearrs Avenue, in the south, to Bruce B. Downs and State Road 54, in the north. So it encompasses parts of Wesley Chapel, Pasco County.
Most of the growth in this area happened in the last decade with residents relocating from northern states like Michigan, Ohio, New York, New Jersey and Virginia.
According to City-data, in 2009, zip code 33647 (which is the zip code shared by majority of New Tampa residents) has 34,519 urban residents and 1,771 rural residents. Estimated median house value in 2009 was $265,211, median resident’s age is 32.3 years, average household size is 2.5 people and median income is $69,034.
Zip code 33543, Wesley Chapel, Pasco County which is part of New Tampa area median household income is $67,942 and estimated median house or condo in 2009 was $210,065.
When you drive the main road in New Tampa, you will see major road constructions. These are signs of development and growth. The two lane roadways are now being expanded into three lanes. This will ease congestion during commuting hours.
Everything that is needed by residents is either under construction or was built in the last decade. Residents enjoy the convenience of all types of shopping, from grocery, electronics to furniture.
There are sports and recreation activities for every age group, budget and level of intensity.
At the time of writing, construction is underway for Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel. The 80-bed, three story hospital on Bruce B. Downs will be part of the new emerging skyline of Wesley Chapel. It is located minutes from Wiregrass Mall and Seven Oaks Neighborhood.
The hospital will be an added bonus to residents who already have the convenience of University Community Health Center which is located at the south end of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel will offer pediatrics, women’s and men’s health centers, general surgery, emergency with helicopter pad, sports medicine, orthopedics and obstetrics. The hospital’s 52 acres location has room for future expansion to serve the growth in the community.
New Tampa is a progressing, vibrant and diverse community. It is not un common to see a Ferrari, Maserati, Ford or Hyundai on the streets of New Tampa on any given day.
